Sudan Armed Forces is prepared to strike Southern Kordufan and Northern Bahr el Ghazel using chemical weapons, the chairperson of the Southern Sudan Human Right Commission says he has learnt through independent sources, reports DENG GARANG JOK:
Lawrence Korbandy says that the commission is concerned over the hostility perpetuated by the SAF on innocent civilians, adding that he condemns in the ‘strongest terms’ what he referred to as an act of genocide.
He warned that the upsurge in deliberate air attacks and brutal killing of the people of southern Sudan and southern Kordofan by the SAF may be a desperate act by the Khartoum regime to eliminate the southerners and non Arab ethnic groups in the North.
The Commission said that whereas the referendum has clearly determined the destiny of southern Sudan, this is still one country, and the Government of Sudan to meet its obligation to protect its Citizens. It also means that Khartoum should stop impeding transportation of goods and services between the North and the south, said Korbandy.
SAF has continued to bomb the area despite international condemnation.
The commission said officials in Khartoum should restrain from further violence and must respect human rights, international humanitarian law and to allow immediate access for international humanitarian organization to the internally displaced person in the affected areas.
“We call upon the African Union AU and the United Nation Security Council and the entire international community to put pressure on the Khartoum government to unconditionally stop the barbaric act with immediate effect,” said Korbandy.
