Zain has put a clean Juba at the forefront of its corporate social responsibility, the Commercial Director of Zain South Sudan said last week as the city geared up for a new Republic.
Yasir Eldirdiri said Zain contributed four vehicles with more than one hundred workers wearing Zain T-shirts to facilitate the clean-up of the Dr. John Garang roundabout and along Munuki roads.
The effort was part of a massive operation, led by a committee led by the ministry of Health and including the Juba Mayor’s Office, that saw even black market forex dealers stopped from working and cyclists stopped from riding the roads.
Juba City Council Deputy Mayor David Lokonga Moses warned the boda boda business should not ride on the main roads. The order, however, allows cyclists to ride the suburbs.
“We want the nation the republic of south Sudan to be clean that as to portrait new image of the nation,” said Lokonga.
The city is also in discussions with cyclists under a Boda Boda Association that would pave way for new, permanent guidelines of how they should operate in the new Republic. Lokonga said Juba City Council has registered 4000 Boda Boda.
The deputy mayor also said the city council had put a stop to the black market money exchanges. Violaters of the new order would have their money confiscated.
