The projects included a refurbishment of Juba Football Stadium, installation of runway lighting at Juba International Airport and construction of four basketball stadiums in Aweil, Rumbek, Bor and Torit. The construction of basketball stadiums is in progress.
Zhang Yu of CNPC handed a plaque to Transport Minister Anthony Makana to symbolize the handing over of Juba International Airport’s runway lighting from oil companies to the Ministry of Transport.
ONGC officials Bansal handed a plaque to Youth, Sports and Recreation Minister Makual Teng to symbolize transfer of the Football to Stadium to government.
PETRONAS South Sudan Chairman, Azman A Aziz said the projects were a coordinated effort from oil companies in South Sudan to contribute to the well being of a new republic.
The oil firms operate in South Sudan in conjunction with the White Nile Petroleum Operating Company (WNPOC), Petrodar Operating Company (PDOC) and Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company (GNPOC).
White Nile managed the construction of the basketball courts; PDOC was in charge of lighting the runaway.
